04/08/2007 - Tour of the Bay of Islands
As the title reads we went on a boat to watch dolphins. The weather was not so good today and it was quite rough, but we had a good boat and it didnt make us sick.
We found the first pod of dolphins really quickly, they had lots of young so it wasnt possible to swim with them. We were only allowed to stay with one pod for a few minutes so as not to intrude on them too much.
After that we were taken on a tour aroundd the whole bay, and, as we were returning to Paihia, we found a huge pod of dolphins. Again, we were only allowed to stay for a short while, but as we powered away, the dolphins had a great game of chasing us and jumping over the boat's surf - they came very close. Really it was a great experience, even though we werent able to swim with them.
After we got back we had a birthday cake for AW, and then spent ages trying to pack ready for our expeditions tomorrow.
